Anterra Capital Launches $200 Million Ag-Food Tech Venture Fund
Specialist venture capital firm Anterra Capital has announced the launch of a new $200 million investment vehicle dedicated to backing pioneering companies across the agricultural technology and food sectors. The firm has successfully secured $100 million in its initial closing, demonstrating strong institutional investor interest in deep-tech and science-based solutions that address critical vulnerabilities in global food supply chains.
Operating from offices in Amsterdam and Boston, Anterra Capital has established itself as one of the premier venture firms in the ag-food space, focusing on scaling businesses that leverage biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and hardware engineering to improve farm productivity, reduce waste, and enhance nutrition.
Focusing on Established Science and Commercial Traction
The launch of the new fund comes during a broader stabilization period for agtech investment. Following a correction in early-stage tech funding, venture capital in 2026 has increasingly shifted away from speculative digital software platforms and toward "upstream" technologies with solid IP, clear scientific foundations, and immediate return on investment for growers.
“The ag-food tech sector is entering a mature phase. Investors are demanding proven science and real commercial traction, rather than just downloads or software features. We are investing in companies that are building the physical and biological infrastructure of tomorrow’s food system.”
Anterra has already deployed capital from the new fund into several early-stage companies, including Anchr, an artificial-intelligence-driven agricultural supply chain optimization startup, and Animerra, a biologicals and crop protection firm focusing on natural alternatives to synthetic inputs.
Key Investment Pillars
The $200 million fund will prioritize four core areas of the agricultural value chain:
- Agricultural Biologicals: Natural inputs, bio-pesticides, and crop nutrition alternatives that reduce reliance on synthetic chemistry.
- Precision Ag & Autonomy: Machine learning, computer vision, and farm robotics that solve labor shortages and optimize field workflows.
- Supply Chain Transparency: Track-and-trace technology and digital tools that optimize logistics and reduce food waste between the farm and retail.
- Alternative Proteins & Nutrition: Fermentation-based protein production and nutrient-dense ingredients that support planetary and human health.
